Webnoises
Welcome to Webnoises 3.0.
Another Web site?
What?
Many moons ago, I built this site (webnoises) as a fun way to learn html. Turned out ok, and now do it for a living.
Howeve, the transition to fulltime web work meant that what I had previously done for fun on Webnoises was now a profession, requiring screen-time and coding 5 days out of the week. Not as much fun anymore - so I gave it a long rest.
Why Now?
I've decided it was time to make things fun again. I've started dipping my toe back into music, and with it find myself in need of a place to store and share it.
And so I give you the beginnings of Webnoises 3.0

The Mixx
Mixx Tape 03
If you're here reading this, then I must know you; or you were exremely bored and found this site by accident. ... or you are a super-sleuth- web-searcher-person in which case I want to meet you.
This is the first tape I picked out of my old suitcase of casstte tapes. Nope, no pre-planning or anything like that, just the luck of the draw. It appears to be close to the end of our time at the Shorewood in Fridley, MN.
The orginal recording was done on a Vestax MR-66. It was a SIX track casstte recorder (you read that right), and built like a tank. Unfortunately, my original MR-66 dissappeared somewhere during my awesome life travels, so these tapes have sat around for quite a while awaiting the day I would return in ernest. I did try using the standard 4 and 8 track decks through the years, but the uneven bleed made mixing a headache I just couldn't endure. When one popped up recently on Ebay, I grabbed it. Seems people liked them and aren't too willing to give them up.
Anyway, the deck was setup and left for the most part. I used the higher speed, so 1 tape equaled 1 set. Not wanting to miss any of the music, I often hit PAUSE between songs. How was I to know that 30 years later, the most entertaining parts were often the banter betwen songs. Live and learn.
Tape was expensive for a youngster like myself, so I was always on the lookout for "extra" cassttes. So much for whatever was on those other tapes. Also, different tape made the quality eratic - as were the nightly recording levels. They were very much dependent on the night of theek/size of the audience, the singer line-up, and of course our mood. And as some may remember, signal-to-noise ratios were extremely important in the pre-digital days of recording. This particular tape red-lined on a couple channels during high energy movements, so there are points of distortion I have yet to figure out a way to remove. Maybe technolgy will fix that someday, but I suspect not.
Hope you enjoy this first run - there will be many more and hopefully I'll figure out the best way to mix and master them before I get too far into it. Or done.
